Storied Yarns - A Yarn Quest Knitting RPG

Created by Tania C Richter

Yarn Quest needs you! Grab your knitting needles and join your fellow Yarn Questers in the quest to save Yarnia! What is Yarn Quest? Yarn Quest is one part knitting pattern, one part Role-Playing Game, and one part Choose Your Own Adventure. Each quest is a knitting pattern, and as the player leads their character through the quest they come across enemies to battle, choices to make, and items that all influence the patterns knitted on the project. That's what makes Yarn Quest so special - almost every project is unique. Storied Yarns is an introduction to Yarn Questing for those who have never played an RPG, and provides new patterns and play styles for those who have partaken in previous campaigns. The book will be a full color hardcover including tutorials, lore, patterns, and lots of artwork. There will be tutorials for how to play, along with tutorials for how to use the double knitting technique. Don't like double knitting? Can't knit, but like to crochet? There are plenty of methods to join in the fun! Questers have done previous projects in colorwork knitting and Tunisian crochet. There's no limit to what you can do!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

January Update - A new timeline and some other announcements
about 5 years ago – Fri, Feb 01, 2019 at 12:55:27 AM

Good evening, everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season. First off, work has been continuing behind the scenes. Most of it has been spoiler-ific, so not much to post yet. However, I've got some good news that you've all been waiting for - we have a timeline! Keep in mind that this is still estimated, something could happen that could cause delays because that's how life works, but it should be good to go.

End of April/Early May - finish layout, finish edits, send book off to be printed

June/early July - Receive all books, begin packing

End July - Shipping madness begins, lasts until everything is shipped

End July - Launch party - optional reward pickup (more on this soon!)

Updates are going to come more often now that we're into the thick of it. I'm going to show some behind the scenes stuff, and hopefully do some of the work live (no knitting because spoilers ;) ). Still working on getting the digital art rig set up to do art properly without screwing up my back.

Also, if you want to watch the mugs being made, feel free to check out Pawley Studios' Twitch stream! They do awesome work and it's very soothing to watch mugs being made from scratch. If I remember their schedule right, they're going to be working on the Kickstarter mugs very soon.

That's all for now. Stay warm, and watch out for those Polar Vortexes!

December Update
over 5 years ago – Fri, Dec 14, 2018 at 01:58:30 AM

Happy December, everyone!

I hope the holiday season is treating everyone well. Sorry that it's been so long since I've updated, work is still going slow with the wrists so I'm not quite as far as I'd been hoping. However, I am starting to pick up speed a bit, meaning that I can draw/chart for about 3 hours a day. There's still a lot to be done, but we're getting there.

Now, for some shinies. First off, the pins are in! I really wanted to have all four colors of the standard logo represented so I had to fiddle around with the design a bit, but I'm extremely happy with how it turned out.

Glorious, glorious pins!

That's a completely undoctored picture that I took of the pin after I charged it for about 10 seconds with a UV flashlight. The glow on these are amazing. The four colors all glow different colors, and it looks really cool in person!

Next progress update is art. Once the holidays are over I'm jumping deep into the art with work on the cover. I've finally got all the stuff I need to stream the art live. I'll probably be streaming in the afternoons, I'm not sure yet if I'm streaming the entire piece or bits and pieces here and there. I've been working on a few pieces already, and here's a preview of some of them -

Quetzalumas, one of the monsters you can encounter

Cowls, a new Feline Companion that can join you on your journey

Mistral, Guardian Dragon of Wind

Ashfall, Guardian Dragon of Fire

These sketches will be imported to Photoshop and colored and finalized there.

Next on the update list is Art Doll Progress. I just upgraded my existing equipment so that I will have new and improved casts, along with a working airbrush (necessary for customizing fur colors and patterns). I will be starting in on all of the art dolls in January.

If you're interested in checking out some of the art streams I'll be running, you can  follow my Twitch channel - https://www.twitch.tv/aetherfangtwitch. In addition to art streams I will also be casting some knitting streams and art doll streams.

Timeline - Well, at this point, as you might have guessed, I have to update the timeline once more. I'm going to wait until after the craziness of the holidays is over so I can lay things out better. However, since the deadline has been pushed out far beyond my initial estimates I will be adding content to the book (some stuff that won't require much for art ;) ). I'll have more on that once I've got the test knit done, I'm particularly happy with this pattern set.

Thank you all for bearing with me through this, and remember to stretch those wrists and stay healthy!

Happy holidays!

I got a box!

And inside that box are a great many things ;)

There will be another update this well, backer reward production is week underway and I have some cool concept stuff to show off!

September Update and housekeeping
over 5 years ago – Sat, Sep 29, 2018 at 12:12:46 AM

Good afternoon, all!

Sorry for the lack of updates. There hasn't been much that I've been able to work on lately, so most of my time is spent trying to get my hands back to normal.

Here's the current estimated timeline. PLEASE NOTE - this is entirely dependent upon my hands following my therapist's current estimations, and there is a chance things could get further bumped back if my hands take a step back. I have to be very careful not to overdo it or it'll mean more delays.

ESTIMATED TIMELINE -

October - Begin Feline and Canine Companion art, cover art
October 16th - Surveys and preorders finally close, cards charged
November/December - Continue artwork/art dolls, begin final layouts and tech edits
January - Finalize artwork, finalize layouts, prepare for printing
February - Book order sent
March - Receive books, begin shipping frenzy

I really didn't want to have to stretch into next year, but at this point there's no way around it.

There have been a few people asking about other logistical things, so here's my compilation!

Q - Did Scarlet Scarab get replaced as the dice color?
A - Sadly, yes. During the campaign they were available, right after the campaign they ended up going out of stock. The color of the dice is now going to be Lustrous Shadow. However! I am planning on eventually getting some Scarlet Scarab when they come back in stock. I'll keep you all updated on that.

Q - How do I add x to my order?
A - Log into Backerkit using your email. You may be sent a new link to your order. In the add-on's section choose the item you wish to add to your order. You can choose to pay with card or PayPal. It will be added onto your existing order.

Q - Where is the eBook?
A - The eBook will be released alongside the hardcover book. There's a lot of art that needs to go into it, so it isn't a finished product yet.

I think that's it for now, let me know in the comments below if you have any additional questions!

Let's get the dice rolling!
over 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 31, 2018 at 07:48:55 PM

Alright everyone, we've got a real, true update with some good stuff!

First off, business, business, business. If you don't have your Backerkit surveys in, please get those in soon. I am going to close them around Sept 16. You will still be able to get in and change your address if it changes before fulfillment, however, I need to be able to get final numbers to my mug and bag makers.

Also, all art surveys should have gone out to the appropriate tiers, if you have not received one please let me know!

Now, some fun. I just got back the photos of the sample dice from Chessex and they turned out amazing.

Dice!!!

So shiny!!!

Have a great weekend all! Hopefully I'll have another exciting update for you next week :D
